Automated Fare Collection System
At Skylabs, we are always looking for ways to improve the passenger experience. That's why we're excited to announce our new Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS). AFCS is a state-of-the-art system that will be installed on all electric buses in our fleet in 2020. Passengers will be able to purchase tickets with their phones or mobile devices-no more waiting in line at the bus! This technology is a game changer for our riders. And we're partnering with Intel to make sure it's as seamless as possible.
Here's how it works:
When a passenger boards the bus, their mobile device will connect to the on-board NFC reader. They'll be able to purchase an e-fare card online or through the app with a tap of their phone-just like how you'd order an Uber. After they board the bus, they'll be able to use the card throughout the ride the same way they use a MetroCard today. The only difference is that the cardholder will be able to use the e-card regardless of whether they're riding a bus or a train.
